ABDOMINAL ORGANS
In some gynecological tumors, the disease can spread beyond the pelvic cavity to organs in the upper abdominal cavity. Ovarian cancer, in particular, frequently affects the upper abdominal cavity, affecting the intestinal structures, liver, spleen, appendix, and the fatty tissue called the omentum. In some cases involving the upper abdominal cavity, the diaphragm, the muscle tissue separating the abdominal and chest cavities, can also be involved, overlying the liver and spleen. For optimal surgery, these organs must also be removed, either partially or completely, to remove the tumor.
