COLPOSCOPY
Colposcopy is the detailed evaluation of the cervix using a microscope called a colposcope. A colposcopic evaluation is necessary in the presence of abnormal smears or high-risk HPV infection. Before the evaluation, the cervix is cleaned using sterile solutions, and specialized chemicals are used to make the dysplastic epithelial areas of the cervix visible under the microscope. The location, size, structure, and abnormal vascularity of the lesions are assessed. Biopsies are taken from appropriate areas, and tissue is preserved in the appropriate solutions to reach a pathological diagnosis.
