Radiotherapy Treatment

Radiotherapy is a local treatment that uses high-energy X-rays or particles to damage the DNA of cancer cells and destroy them. In gynecologic oncology, radiotherapy can be applied as adjuvant therapy after surgery or as a primary treatment for cervical, endometrial, and vulvar cancers.

Radiotherapy can be delivered externally (external beam) or internally (brachytherapy). Treatment planning considers tumor size, location, and patient condition. Modern radiotherapy techniques focus on maximizing tumor targeting while minimizing damage to healthy tissues.

During and after treatment, side effects such as skin redness, fatigue, and bladder or bowel irritation may occur. These effects are generally temporary and can be managed symptomatically. Treatment effectiveness is monitored through imaging studies and clinical evaluations before and after therapy.

The goal is to control the tumor and reduce the risk of recurrence. Patients are closely followed by a specialized medical team throughout radiotherapy. Patient education and quality-of-life management are essential for successful treatment outcomes.
